When does Arabic literature break its boundaries to speak to the world? This session explores the journey toward a global audience, where Arabic texts compete for a place in the literary canon and in international awards.
We discuss the ethical, aesthetic, and commercial questions that arise in this crossover. Writers Kay Heikkinen, Sarah Enany, and Dr Shahla Ujayli shed light on the many facets of reaching the global reader. Together, we explore how cultural sensibilities are conveyed and strategies for entering new markets are designed, all while preserving the soul of the text.
