  • It's a Long Story: Malaka Gharib & Deena Mohamed

The award-winning Malaka Gharib’s latest book, It Won’t Always Be Like This, charts her adolescent summers spent in Egypt and the ensuing collision of family, culture and identity. Deena Mohamed is best known for her droll webcomic series Qahera, which follows the adventures of a Muslim Egyptian superhero fighting against Islamophobia and misogyny; her prize-winning Shubeik Lubeik, praised as ‘gritty, brazen, and full of spunk’ (The New Yorker), extends her interest in the fantastical by imagining a Cairo in which wishes can be bought at kiosks scattered throughout the city. Gharib and Mohamed join Nora Zeid to share the stories of their lives which have inspired their work.
