  • Workshop: Difficult Choices

When writing a novel, authors must take care to not leave readers dissatisfied with glaring plot holes and disparate, unresolved narrative threads. No matter how hard you’ve worked, sometimes removing unnecessary elements such as plotlines, characters or sentences can make your overall story stronger, providing your work clarity. In this workshop, Icelandic author Yrsa Sigurðardóttir (The Prey) will share the difficult choices faced by those embarking on their novel writing journey, from killing darlings to substantial rewriting of whole paragraphs and chapters – and draw from her decades-long writing career to offer advice on how to identify when those difficult choices must be made, and what to do about them.
