A F Harrold

AF Harrold is an English poet and author who writes and performs for both children and adults. On the poetry front he is the author of The Book of Not Entirely Useful Advice, illustrated by Mini Grey, Things You Find in a Poet’s Beard, illustrated by Chris Riddell, and the food-related anthology, Midnight Feasts, illustrated by Katy Riddell. His funny novels include the Fizzlebert Stump series, illustrated by Sarah Horne, and the Greta Zargo duology, illustrated by Joe Todd-Stanton. With Levi Pinfold he made The Song from Somewhere Else and The Worlds We Leave Behind, both of which were shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal for outstanding illustration, and with Emily Gravett he made The Afterwards and The Imaginary, the latter of which has recently been made into a Japanese animated movie by Studio Ponoc.

When not sat in his shed stroking his beard to try to find new ideas, he’s out on the road visiting schools and sharing his poems in classrooms wherever he’s invited. He lives in Reading, with a radio broadcaster, children’s author and stand up comedian (all the same person), and two cats, Susan and Vincent.
