Afra Atiq
Dr Afra Atiq is an Emirati poet, scholar, and interdisciplinary artist, known for her contributions to the literary and cultural landscape of the United Arab Emirates. She earned her PhD in Media and Creative Industries from the United Arab Emirates University, focusing her research on the literary ecosystem. Additionally, she holds a Master’s degree in Diplomacy.
Dr Afra’s work spans poetry, performance, and visual arts, exploring themes such as heritage, culture, identity, and legacy. She writes and performs in a blend of English, Arabic, French and now Python coding language.
Her debut poetry collection Of Palm Trees and Skies was published by ELF publishing in September 2024. She has performed at prestigious local and international stages, including in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, Germany, Indonesia, and Mexico. She has also recently completed the Reality Art Tech Collaborative Training Program.
In addition to her artistic endeavours, Dr. Afra is dedicated to education and community engagement. She mentors students and writers, conducts workshops, and participates in speaking engagements. Her academic field of study focuses on creativity and its role in the literary and cultural sectors. Her research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Dr. Afra Atiq brings together poetry, scholarship, and visual storytelling to engage audiences through creativity and various mediums.
