Ahmed Abdullatif

Ahmed Abdullatif is an Egyptian writer known for his experimental style of fusing fantasy, reality and dream in his works. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and literature from Al-Azhar University, a Master's degree in Comparative Literature from the Autonoma de Madrid University and a PhD in Arabic Literature from the University of Granada.


Since 2008, he has written for the literary magazine Akhbar Al Adab. In 2010, he published his debut novel The Key Maker, which won the 2011 Egyptian State Encouragement Award. His other books include The Science of Mandel, published in 2012, The Book of the Sculptor published in 2013 and winner of the 2015 Sawiris Cultural Award.As a translator, Abdullatif has translated numerous titles from Latin America and Spain into Arabic including From the Shadows and The Things We Do by Juan José Millás.


His novel The Earthen Fortress was nominated for the 2018 International Prize for Arabic Fiction, which centres on a family of Moriscos in Andalusia during the decline of Islamic influence in Spain.
