Ali Abu Al Reesh

Ali Abu Al Reesh is an Emirati novelist, journalist and poet. He was born in 1956 in Ras al-Khaimah and in 1979 graduated from Ain Shams University, Cairo, in psychology. Al Reesh was the Managing Editor of Al Ittihad newspaper and editor for the Qalam series, the publishing arm of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. After retirement, he joined the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, where he works sporadically on writing his novels and has a daily column in Al-Ittihad newspaper entitled ‘Marafi’. Al Reesh published a collection of short stories in 1979, followed by two collections of poetry. His first novel, Al-A’tiraf (The Confession), was published in 1980 and he has written 12 more novels since. In 2008, Al Reesh was awarded the Literature Prize at the Emirates Appreciation Award for Science, Art and Literature. His work has been translated into several languages including French, Russian, Brazilian, Hindi, Portuguese, and Persian.
