Bilal Orfali
Bilal Orfali serves as the Sheikh Zayed Chair of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and as Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). A leading scholar in Arabic and Islamic literatures, the Qur’an, Sufism, and narratology, he plays a key editorial role in major academic journals and series. He is the handling editor of al-Markaz: Journal of Arab Studies and editor of al-Abhath, Texts and Studies on the Qur’an, the Handbook of Sufi Studies, and the Sheikh Zayed Series for Arabic and Islamic Texts and Studies. He also serves as associate editor of Brill’s Journal of Arabic Literature.
Orfali sits on advisory boards of academic initiatives across the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, and has authored or edited more than two dozen books in Arabic and English.
