Deema Al Alami

Deema Al Alami is an educator and children’s author whose mission is to turn every family into a ‘reading family’, which she does by recommending children's books and sharing literacy tips and tricks through social media (@deema_al_alami and @oh.thebooks), as well as conducting workshops for parents, caregivers and teachers on how to best nurture a love for reading in children from a young age.

She has co-authored two bestselling children’s books, the latest being the first ever Arabic children’s books about body safety, Hatha Jismi La Talmasni. She is the  co-founder of #AlalamiBookClub, which  encourages reading for pleasure to over 750 members, and recently launched  ‘From Mother to Author’, a masterclass designed to support aspiring children’s book authors in the hopes of further transforming and enriching Arabic children’s literature in the region.

She has been working in education for over 16 years and has an MA in education from King's College London and a BA in elementary education from the American University of Beirut. Before dedicating her time to spreading the love of reading, she was a vice president at GEMS Education for over seven years.
