Diana Darke
Diana Darke is an award-winning author, broadcaster, and Middle East cultural historian, with degrees in Arabic from Oxford, and in Islamic Art and Architecture from SOAS, London. Darke has spent more than 40 years living and working in the region.
In 2020, her book Stealing from the Saracens: How Islamic Architecture Shaped Europe won three Book of the Year awards. Its sister volume, Islamesque, was selected by Daunt as a History and Current Affairs Book of the Year, 2024.
Her other bestselling books include My House in Damascus, The Ottomans: A Cultural Legacy, and Stealing from the Saracens.
Her work has appeared in The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, and Al Araby.
