Hoda Barakat
Hoda Barakat, born in Beirut, holds a degree in French Literature and has lived in France since 1989. She writes mainly in Arabic, with some works in French, and contributes to newspapers, magazines, and anthologies.
Her publications include the short story collection Zayarat (Visitors), Letters from a Stranger, and acclaimed novels such as The Stone of Laughter, Disciples of Passion, The Tiller of Waters, My Master and My Love, The Kingdom of This Land, and The Night Mail.
Barakat has received the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature, the Sultan Bin Al Owais Prize, and the Sheikh Zayed Book Award (2025), and has been shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction. Her works have been translated into several languages, and she has taught at American universities, most recently at Dartmouth College.
