Joanna Barakat
Joanna Barakat is a visual artist celebrated for her mixed-media work that combines painting with traditional Palestinian embroidery. Working across various mediums, she explores transcendental ideas, challenges collective perceptions, and advocates for Palestine through deeply self-reflective art. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in numerous publications. Born in Jerusalem and raised in Los Angeles, Barakat now lives in Abu Dhabi. She holds a BA from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, and an MA from SOAS, University of London. She is the founder of The Tatreez Circle and the author of Narrative Threads: Palestinian Embroidery in Contemporary Art.
