Jung Chang
Jung Chang is one of the world’s most influential chroniclers of modern China, best known for Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China, the landmark memoir that has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide and remains banned in China. Her acclaimed body of work includes the ground-breaking trilogy Mao: The Unknown Story (with Jon Halliday), described by Time as “an atom bomb of a book”; Empress Dowager Cixi, a New York Times Notable Book; and Big Sister, Little Sister, Red Sister, hailed by The Spectator as “monumental.” Translated into more than 40 languages, Chang’s writing has earned major international awards, honorary doctorates across the UK and US, and a CBE for services to literature and history. Born in Sichuan Province in 1952, she lived through the Cultural Revolution before moving to Britain in 1978, later becoming the first person from Communist China to earn a PhD from a British university. Her latest book is Fly, Wild Swans: My Mother, Myself and China.
