Rachel Clarke
Rachel Clarke is an award-winning author, and practicing palliative care doctor. She is the author of four Sunday Times bestselling books about medicine.
Her most recent, The Story of a Heart, won the 2025 Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction, and was shortlisted for the 2024 Baillie Gifford Prize.
Before studying medicine, Clarke worked as a broadcast journalist, making current affairs documentaries on subjects including the Iraq War, and the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Alongside her clinical work, she writes regularly for The Guardian, Sunday Times, New Statesman, and The Lancet, and is a frequent commentator on television, and radio.
