Reem Bassiouney

Reem Bassiouney is a professor and head of the Linguistics Department at The American University in Cairo. In addition, she serves as editor of the Edinburgh Journal, which focuses on Arabic sociolinguistics, and the Routledge Studies Series on Language and Identity. She taught at American and British universities like the University of Cambridge while pursuing her Master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Oxford in Britain.


Several of her books have been number one bestsellers in the Middle East. Her books have been translated by Dr Roger Allen, known for being the translator of renowned author Naguib Mahfouz's novels. Among her most well-known translations are Al-Qata'i: The Ibn Tulun Trilogy and Al-Halwani: The Fatimid Trilogy.
