Shahla Ujayli
Shahla Ujayli is a Jordanian–Syrian writer and professor of modern literature and cultural studies at the American University of Jordan. She has lectured at leading international universities, including Harvard, Cornell, and Georgetown.
Her novels A Sky Close to Our House and The Enemy’s Summer were shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction. Eye of the Desert won the Jordanian State Prize for Literature, while A Bed for the King’s Daughter received the Almultaqa Prize for the Arabic Short Story and was shortlisted for the Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation.
Her most recent novel, Hanna Diab’s Room, further cemented her literary reputation. Her works have been translated into English, German, Spanish, Persian, and Italian.
