Tim Mackintosh-Smith
Tim Mackintosh-Smith is an Arabist, historian, translator, and novelist, renowned for his genre-defying works that explore time, place, and culture through travel. He has spent forty years in the Arab world, much of it in the Old City of Sana’a, Yemen.
His publications include a celebrated trilogy retracing the journeys of Ibn Battutah, and Bloodstone, a thriller set in the Alhambra. His monumental work Arabs: A 3,000-Year History of Peoples, Tribes and Empires has been translated into twelve languages. His contributions to film and television include a major BBC series on Ibn Battutah.
Tim currently serves as Visiting Professor at New York University Abu Dhabi and is working on the first complete translation of Ibn Khaldun’s autobiography.
