Yi-Hwa Hanna
Yi-Hwa Hanna is a Dubai-based author and award-winning writer with a two-decade career spanning international journalism and editing across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and North America. Her work has appeared in leading global and regional publications, including Women’s Health, where she launched the Middle East edition and served as Editor-in-Chief. Alongside print and digital storytelling, she has held leadership roles across tech-driven start-ups, global communications firms, and government entities, and has travelled to more than 65 countries as a travel expert.
Her fiction has won first place in the 2023 Emirates LitFest Writing Prize, as well as places in the inaugural First Chapter ELF Seddiqi Writers' Fellowship in 2022, Gotham Writers Workshop's Coming-of-Age Contest in 2022, and Dubai Future Foundation's Echoes of Tomorrow Sci-Fi Short Story Competition in 2024. A judge for the 2025 MBRSC Short Story Award: New Voices in Sci-Fi, her writing typically explores the space between speculative fiction, science fiction, and human-centred futurism.
