Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

Yrsa Sigurðardóttir is an Icelandic bestselling author of crime fiction, horror and children’s books. Her adult fiction includes two series, one featuring lawyer Thora Guðmundsdóttir and one featuring policeman Huldar and child psychologist Freyja, in addition to various crime fiction and horror standalones. Sigurðardóttir has three times won the Icelandic Crime Fiction Award, most recently in 2020 for her standalone novel The Prey, in addition having been awarded the Icelandic Children’s Literature Prize. Her novels have been translated to over 30 languages and have been critically and commercially successful internationally. She has received foreign crime writing prizes and two of her novels having been selected by the Sunday Times as the best crime novel of the year.   


Two of Sigurðardóttir’s novels have been adapted for the big screen, I Remember You and The Undesired.  An adaptation of her Huldar and Freyja series for television is in the works underway.


Sigurðardóttir is a civil engineer by trade and still works as such in her native Iceland.
